Abstract
We describe a highly-efficient nanometric light source obtained by second harmonic generation at a sharp metal tip illuminated at grazing-incidence by 25-fs pulses from a Ti:sapphire oscillator. Applications to background-free apertureless near-field microscopy are explored.
