Impact of Spatial-Hole Burning on Beam Quality in Large-Mode-Area Yb-Doped Fibers

Abstract

The effects of spatial-hole burning are explored in multimode active fibers. A propagation model using the fiber modes is used to explain experimentally observed behavior. Local gain saturation is required for accurate explanation of the physics.
