Abstract

We report on the efficient direct inscription through the polymer coating of fundamental order fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) with high refractive index modulation. This direct inscription was performed through fiber jackets made of various polymers including acrylate, polyimide and silicone, for optical fiber diameters ranging from 50 to 250 µm and for various glass compositions such as H2-loaded and unloaded germanosilicate, pure silica, fluorides and chalcogenides.
