Abstract

Here we show that resonant Raman spectroscopy can be effectively used to probe conformational states of cytochrome c in intact and damaged mitochondria thereby providing a sensitive tool for studies of cytochrome c release during permeabilization of the outer mitochondrial membrane, which is an important stage of apoptosis.
