Abstract
Tissue oxygenation and especially oxygen saturation parameters are crucial for the assessment of the viability of organs. Different NIR spectroscopic approaches have been developed with a current methodological focus on time-resolved and frequency domain though commercial instruments based on spatially resolved spectroscopy (SRS) are already used in clinical trial. The current paper assesses the reliability of the SRS approach with a broad band, multi-channel spectroscopy system and validates the saturation values of muscle oxygenation during prolonged calculated with respect to the wavelength range used, the source-detector distance and assumptions about background tissue properties. Furthermore, time-resolved spectroscopy is included as a reference standard.
