Abstract
A diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) is used to non-invasively measure in vivo blood flow responses to PDT in mice bearing radiation-induced fibrosarcoma (RIF) tumors. The treatment efficacy, as measured by the tumor regrowth time, significantly correlates with the acute flow reduction rate during PDT, as well as with flow reduction 3 hours after PDT. We surmise from this data that rapid vascular occlusion during PDT shuts off the tissue oxygen supply which in turn reduces PDT efficacy, and greater reduction of blood flow at 3 hours after PDT demonstrates more vascular damage which correlates good treatment efficacy.
