Abstract
We evaluated the potential of mesh-based Monte Carlo method for wide-field time-gated fluorescence molecular tomography (FMT) in preclinical settings with the goal to overcome the inaccuracy of the diffusion equation in these scenarios. The mesh-based parallel code was optimized to utilize multiple threads and nodes for efficient computations. The in silico results established that, the optimized mesh-based Monte Carlo method is a computationally efficient solution for optical tomography for pre-clinical studies.
