Observation of intense longitudinal electric field generated from radially polarized laser beam

Abstract

We have developed a unique polarization converter based on optical rotatory of liquid crystal to generate the radial polarization from the linear. Intense longitudinal electric field near the focus was experimentally observed for the first time by using a two-dimensional optical Kerr shutter camera.
