Wavefront Correction of Laser Rods Using Magnetorheological Finishing

Abstract

A magnetorheological finishing technique for correcting the transmitted wavefront of laser rods is reported. Significant improvements for large-aperture Nd:YLF laser rods are demonstrated, and the potential for correcting smaller apertures and thermal aberrations is addressed.
