Modulation-dependent frequency shifts in CPT-based atomic clocks

Abstract

When frequency modulation is used to detect coherent population trapping resonances, shifts proportional to the modulation parameters and the laser detuning from the excited state are observed. These shifts limit the stability of CPT-based atomic clocks.
