Abstract

Simulations of surface-emitting terahertz lasers using second-order gratings are presented. Analysis shows performance superior to edge-emitting devices, with outcoupling efficiencies nearly twice as large for equal threshold gain. Grating phaseshifts produce high quality farfield profiles.
