1.5 µm photon-counting optical time domain reflectometry with a single-photon detector using up-conversion in a PPLN waveguide

Abstract

A 1.5 µm single-photon detector, which combines up-conversion in a PPLN waveguide with a silicon avalanche photodiode, is used to demonstrate photon-counting OTDR. The system exhibits good sensitivity, high spatial resolution and small measurement time.
