Gain-Assisted Nanoscale Surface Plasmons

Abstract

Surface plasmons at the interface between metal and dielectric with strong optical gain are analyzed. Proper choice of optical indices results in an infinitely large effective refractive index, vanishing low group velocity, and deep sub-wavelength localization near the interface.
