Abstract
Strong in-plane confinement of acoustic phonons in air-glass PCFs with sub-wavelength-scale cores is shown to result in an acoustic mode cut-off frequency, which acts like a Raman resonance. Spontaneous and photoacoustic measurements illustrate the effect.
