Explanation for significantly improved VCSEL modulation bandwith in strong optical injection experiments

Abstract

Experimentally observed 5-fold increase in the modulation bandwidth of strongly injected VCSELs is explained to arise from injection-induced population pulsation. The injected-laser rate-equations reproduce the relevant aspects of modulation experiments on different VCSEL structures.
