Guiding of Two-Dimensional Optical Waves by Low-Refractive-Index Cores

Abstract

A new method for guiding two-dimensional (2D) optical waves is proposed using metal-gap waveguides with low-refractive-index cores. 2D optical waves are prohibited from propagating inside claddings, resulting in strong confinement of waves inside the core.
