We demonstrate bandwidth enhancement of external- and direct-modulated lasers using a tunable optical equalizer. Modulation bandwidth of >50 GHz for LiNbO3 modulators was obtained. The equalizer permits the increased-speed and chirp-reduction simultaneously for direct-modulated VCSELs.
