Dynamics of an Erbium Mid-IR Laser

Abstract

A room temperature 4.5μm laser is reported in Er:KPb2Cl5 crystals using 0.8μm diode excitation. Long fluorescent lifetimes lead to important ETU and ESA processes. The impact of these excitation channels on laser performance is assessed.
