Self-Pulsing in On-Chip Er-Doped Microcavity Lasers

Abstract

We characterize self-pulsing in erbium-doped microtoroidal lasers fabricated from sol-gel silica layer deposited on a silicon wafer. Effects of pump and taper-cavity coupling on peak power, period and width of laser pulses are investigated experimentally.
