Abstract

By exploiting large transition cross-sections, high dopant concentration, and strong light confinement, 950 dB/cm gain is demonstrated in a KGdLu(WO4)2:Yb3+ channel waveguide, representing a hundred-fold improvement in rare-earth-ion-doped materials.
