Abstract

We propose an on-chip nano-horn metal-clad optical cavity with sloped sidewalls that achieves much improved vertical mode confinement--quality factor of 1000 and effective volume of 0.31(&lambda;/n)<sup>3</sup>-- in 0.8&mu;m height of previously reported devices.
