2THz Optical Waveform Measurement by Development of Digital Holographic Synthesizer & Analyzer of 400GHz Optical Frequency Comb

Abstract

I. Introduction The high-speed signal processing is required in optical communication and ultra-short pulse technologies. However, the direct processing faces the limitation by the response time of optical or electrical circuits. In order to operate such a high-speed signal, it is effective to process it on a frequency axis [1] by measuring the high-resolution phase and amplitude spectra simultaneously, so called as the digital holography. We have proposed the novel digital holographic technology named as dual heterodyne mixing method which can measure the relative phase between optical longitudinal modes [2]. It was applied to 12.5 Gb/s amplitude and phase modulated signal sensing with 1/63 low-speed photo detector [2-4]. In this study, amplitude and phase spectra of a 400 GHz optical frequency comb was controlled by a colorless optical synthesizer consisted of the colorless arrayed-waveguide grating (AWG), optical phase modulators, and optical amplitude modulators. Also, the complex electric field spectra of the high repetition comb were measured by multi-heterodyne mixing method that we have proposed.
