Experimental Validation of a Simple Approximate Relation Between Laser Frequency Noise and Linewidth

Abstract

We present an experimental validation of a simple geometrical approximation of the laser linewidth calculated from its frequency noise spectrum, agreeing within the experimental uncertainty with the actual value over a wide range of linewidths.
