Low-Loss, Broad-Band Coupling Between Single-Mode Optical Fibers with Very Different Mode-Field Diameters

Abstract

An approach for efficient coupling between different single-mode fibers is demonstrated. It is shown that short segments of graded-index fiber can provide broadband, extremely low-loss coupling even when the fibers have very different mode-field diameters.
