“Backwards” Pulse Propagation in Erbium Doped Fiber

Abstract

We experimentally investigate and explain the “backwards propagation” effect that occurs in a negative group velocity medium, such as Er3+-doped fiber. A novel method for distortion compensation in such a system is presented.
