Edge-Based Depth-Fused 3D Display

Abstract

We propose a new type of depth-fused 3D (DFD) display, which employs fusion between a shape and its edge. In conventional DFD display, depth change can be perceived by changing the luminance ratio between the overlapped images with the same shape in the front and rear planes with a gap. In our newly proposed DFD display, instead of using the same shape images, only right and left edges of the other plane image are used. The proposed edge-based DFD display technique has been confirmed experimentally. By changing the luminance ratio between the edge image in a plane and the full image in the other plane, perceived depth change can be successfully obtained.
