Abstract

OCT and PS-OCT scans of equine articular cartilage, made on intact joint surface, are presented. Substantial (typically ×2) variations in the optical birefringence were found over spatial scales of a few millimetres. A comparison with data obtained on equine flexor tendon also suggests that PSOCT detects variations in the orientation of the collagen fibers in the equatorial plane as well as the azimuthal plane.
