Coronagraphic Telescopes for Extrasolar Planet Searches

Abstract

Recent discoveries in optics suggest that it should be possible to detect Earth-like planets around nearby stars using an optical telescope in space, and to search for signs of life on those planets. I will discuss the basic optics of each of these types of coronagraphic telescopes.
