Abstract

The modified Sparrow criterion of Asakura has been employed to obtain the two-line Sparrow limits of resolution for optical systems apodised by Hanning amplitude filters. It is found that, with high apodisation, there is an appreciable increase of resolution of these systems compared to that of the diffraction-limited Airy systems.
