I review recent work in the DISP group at Duke University focusing on imaging and spectroscopic sensors for feature specific and data efficient sensing. I describe experiments in diffuse source Raman spectroscopy and hyperspectral imaging and I analyze geometric and coherence constraints on generalized sampling strategies in optical sensor design.
