Abstract
The National Ignition Facility at LLNL when complete will be the world's largest and most energetic laser system. The system is more than 86% complete. This talk will briefly overview the NIF Laser system's architecture, from the regenerative amplifier to the target chamber. The Injection Laser system will be discussed in more detail
The Injection Laser System, or ILS, generates, amplifies, and shapes the laser beams before they enter the 192 main amplifiers. The ILS system was designed to be highly versatile to satisfy the broad range of NIF experimental requirements while being while being highly energetic. This talk will discuss some of the optical design and engineering considerations used to define the architecture of such a system.
