Abstract

This paper presents a scheme to clamp the gain of erbium-dopped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) by using a self-tuning all-optical feedback loop. In this scheme, the attenuation gain in the all-optical feedback loop is tuned continuously subject to a control law which is a linear combination of the tapped output and input power of an EDFA. The scheme improves existing EDFA gain clamping results by reducing the relaxation oscillation.
