Abstract

Our recent investigation shows that the propagation distance of the fundamental symmetric mode surface plasmon-polaritons can be extended several orders of magnitude by placing dielectric layers with lower index of refraction than that of the cladding dielectric on each side of the metal film and design the metal-dielectric structure properly.
