Numerical analysis of the role of core-clad index contrast in a multicore fiber bundle

Abstract

We demonstrate numerically that a large core-clad index contrast lowers couplings between neighboring cores, achieving a fiber bundle with a higher core density, less coupling, and effectively single moded propagation in each core.
