Abstract

We experimentally measure the optical nonlinearities in hydrogenated-amorphous silicon waveguides through the transmission of ultra-short pulses. Enhanced nonlinear coefficients are reported in submicron waveguides with a free carrier lifetime of ~ 400 ps.
