Energy–Momentum Tensor for the Electromagnetic Field in a Dielectric

Abstract

The total momentum of a thermodynamically closed system is unique. The Gordon total momentum of a propagating electromagnetic field and negligibly reflecting dielectric is used to construct a traceless, diagonally symmetric energy–momentum tensor.
