Crystalline whispering gallery mode cavities directly fabricated by crystal growth

Abstract

We successfully fabricated whispering gallery mode cavities made of crystalline material using the laser-heated pedestal growth method. The crystalline feature was maintained and the Q-factor of our fabricated hexagonal sapphire resonator was about 8.5×103.
