Abstract
A novel scheme for radiation detection in Tm3+:CaF2 and Yb3+:CaF2 crystals produces fluorescence proportional to valence-altered impurity concentration, input power, and integration time. It offers greatly improved sensitivity, detector reset capability and high energy resolution.
