Abstract

The dependencies of mode instabilities on different parameters are discussed and several techniques to increase the onset threshold of this effect are proposed and analyzed. The discussion is then focused on the results obtained using a dynamic mode excitation technique with which an stabilization of the beam at powers higher than 3 times the threshold was achieved.
