Observation of spatial-modulation instability due to quintic nonlinearity

Abstract

We observed spatial-modulation-instability in a colloid with suppressed cubic nonlinearity and positive quintic nonlinearity. This experiment illustrates a procedure for non-linearity management of metal-dielectric nanocomposites that can be extended to investigate other effects.
