Abstract

The Marine-Atmospheric Emitted Radiance Interferometer (M-AERI) is a robust, accurate seagoing Fourier transform spectrometer that can be deployed on marine platforms to measure thermal emission spectra in the 3.3–19 µm range from the sea surface and marine atmosphere. The measurements can be used to retrieve environmental variables such as ocean skin temperature and atmospheric profiles of temperature and water vapor. Results from the first shipboard deployment of a new M-AERI instrument in the eastern Pacific Ocean are presented.
