Correlation between translational and internal motion of a single atom in a high-finesse cavity

Abstract

In the strong-coupling regime we study the full correlated dynamics of a cold atom in a standing-wave cavity field with the center-of-mass motion included and show how to create effective periodic optical potentials to drive the motion by varying the atom-field detuning.
