Transmission of Classical Information Over a Noisy Quantum Channel

Abstract

This paper deals with transmission of polarized photons over a quantum channel subjected to attenuation and random polarization noise. It is shown that the maximal (von Neumann) capacity of such a channel can be achieved by a simple symbol detector followed by a classical error correcting decoder.
