Abstract
XTA (X-ray transient absorption) spectroscopy has been used to probe the transient structure during interfacial electron transfer between photo-sensitizer and semiconductor nanocrystals. Two sample systems have been studied, Ru(dcbpy)2(NCS)2 and Os(dcbpy)2(CN)2 (dcbpy = bis(4,4′-dicarboxy-2,2′-bipyridyl) adsorbed to TiO2 nanoparticle surface. The photoexcited Ruthenium or Osmium polypyridyl photosensitizers inject electrons to conduction band of TiO2 nanoparticle, resulting in interfacial charge-transfer state. Both the electronic configuration and molecular structure changes of Ruthenium and Osmium complexes in the charge-separated state have been observed.
