Abstract

In the Four-Quadrant Position Detector (F-QPD) system, the precision of the orientation system is greatly influenced by the characteristics of the laser spot and location algorithm. The characteristics of the laser spot and the theoretical model based on the F-QPD system are presented, and the location algorithms of the laser spot for the five different cases are discussed in detail. The center location algorithm for Gaussian laser spot with elliptic shape is proposed in this paper, and a comparison of the theory spot and the actual spot after curve fitting has been given. The experiment results of the orientation system agree with the theoretical analyses.
