Second-harmonic generation from sub-wavelength apertures: Effects of lattice arrangement

Abstract

We measure second-harmonic generation from arrays of sub-wavelength apertures in transmission using fundamental input at 800nm. The apertures are roughly 275nm in diameter and etched in 100nm thick gold films. Aperture lattice arrangements include: square, triangular, Penrose, and disordered. Strong angular dependence of SHG is observed, with minima at normal incidence and maxima positions depending on the lattice. In addition, secondary maxima are observed for the arrangements with higher degree of periodicity.
