Abstract

A balanced photodetector and a balanced photoreceiver for applications in 40 Gbit/s DPSK transmission systems are presented and their performance is compared. Cutoff frequencies above 40 GHz and–35 dBm receiver sensitivity in optically amplified systems are achieved.
