Extraordinary polarization sensitivity of nanoparticle arrays to structural asymmetry

Abstract

Polarized linear transmission measurements reveal that very small structural asymmetries in arrays of L-shaped gold nanoparticles induce disproportionately large deviations of the primary absorption directions from the expected directions and also manifest optical activity.
