Effects of fixation on cyan fluorescent protein and its fluorescence resonance energy transfer efficiency

Abstract

Fixation of samples is commonly used in conjunction with fluorescence microscopy of cells. We show that fixation can have dramatic effects on the fluorescence properties of cyan fluorescent protein and on its ability to engage in FRET.
