Maximal Polarization Order of Random Electromagnetic Light Beams

Abstract

We consider the mean spectral degree of polarization and show that it represents the maximal polarization order of fluctuating optical beams, leading to a classification of time-domain polarization changes into reversible and irreversible processes.
